Wrexham AFC player involved in car crash after cup game against Bolton Wanderers

A Wrexham AFC footballer has been involved in a car crash after his side's cup game against Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday.

Midfielder Elliot Lee was rushed to hospital after the incident, which took place when he was driving home, his club said in a statement.

The crash happened after the 30-year-old featured in Wrexham's 1-0 quarter-final win over Bolton in the EFL Trophy - known as the Vertu Trophy.

The crash involved another car and the other driver was also taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries.

Lee suffered no major injuries, Wrexham said in a statement.

"Emergency services were quickly on the scene and the club would like to thank them for their prompt response and action," the club added.

Lee, the son of former England international Robert Lee, joined Wrexham in 2022 and has been part of the side that won back-to-back promotions.

Despite their minnow status within the football league, Wrexham shot to fame after being bought out by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
